Retrograde energy

A retrograde is when the planet in question appears to move backward in the sky. Astronomically speaking, we know that it isn‘t the case as planets don’t move backwards but in a birth chart they do. You can have 1 or more planets retograding at the same time. There are three parts to a retrograde - the pre-shadow phase (when it slows down ready to change direction) the retrograde (appears to moves backward) and the post-shadow phase (when it is moving slowly in the forward direction and speeding back up again).

Retrogrades are a time of introspection and turning inward to see if we are heading where we want or need to go. They want us to dig deep to reevaluate, review and reflect on the themes that are associated with the planet in question and the sign and house it is in.

Whenever a planet is in retrograde, it gives you 3 times to learn or collect information about the life lessons asscociated with the house, sign and planet involved. When looking at retrogrades, it important to look at the house and sign the planet is in. Also the element the sign is in as this will give you information on what the lessons you are learning.

If it is in an earth sign (Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn) it will be affect anything material. If it is a water sign (Pisces, Scorpio or Capricorn) it will affect your emotional energy. If it is an air sign (Aquarius, Gemini or Libra) it will affect your mind. Lastly, if it is a fire sign (Leo, Sagittarius and Aries) it will affect your passions and drive.

Often retrograde energy is feared and is given a bad name but actually it can be incredible valuable in helping us gather information and see if we are where we want to be. So as long as you know the information and can get ahead of the curve, retrogrades can be a valuable resources within your life.
